The difference we make

Although Kenya has the strongest economy in East Africa there are still large sections of society that are disenfranchised and living in poverty. Inequalities are stark and have been made more so by the coronavirus pandemic. The Langalanga Trust (LLT) makes a difference to the communities of Langalanga, Gilgil and the surrounding areas through 5 core areas of support:

  • Our 'Lunchbox' Programme, which provides about 72,000 school meals annually to Mwega and Ndogo Primary Schools to allow the children to focus on their learning.
  • The provision of scholarships. We have funded 312 scholars from disadvantaged backgrounds through education and changed their lives and those of the families that they come from.
  • We have created and support a Scholars Association, which provides a network and support environment for all scholars, including a focus on addressing some of the particular challenges of inequality that women face. The Association represents the Trust family in Kenya.
  • The Trust, through one of its foundation charities, has built 16 Primary Schools and 2 Secondary Schools. The Trust now represents the Woodard Corporation on the Board of the Woodard Langalanga Secondary School and provides funds for awards, measures to improve academic standards and for minor projects.
  • The provision of school resources and minor maintenance to the family of Primary Schools originally built by the Trust's foundation charity, the Kariandusi School Trust.
